FALL WINTER 2019
The LEHHO Woman As Space Traveler
The Fall Winter 2019 Collection explores sculptural fluidity, clean geometric lines, and playful movement. Creative Director Shinhye Suk was moved by the work of Constantin Brâncuși, a Romanian-French sculptor and pioneer of modernism in the early 20th century. His sculptures convey balance and harmony, focused on evoking the essence of his muse rather than its literal form.
Intricately assembled pieces lead to deceptively simple lines and shapes. The clean geometric lines outside rely on a rigorous sewing process. This Collection balances form and material, transcending the third dimension: movement is added to dresses and skirts, while a jumpsuit demonstrates sculptural draping reminiscent of Mademoiselle Pogany. The juxtaposition of contrasting materials—shiny and matte, rough and smooth—adds a pleasing balance to the LEHHO aesthetic. A retrofuture color palette of butterscotch yellow and lavender contrast against black, petrol, and textured silver.
Fashion moves forward, taking us into the future, but yesterday’s silhouettes and patterns are often inspirations for new seasons. Space Traveler FW19 nods to the past at Brâncuși, but is also romantic about space futurism and the essence of woman. Shinhye Suk brings to life the realization that simplicity is not simple: a refined form is refined through iteration, dedication, and restraint of line and material.
